Matthew “Mieczyslaw” Czerwinski, 84, of New Britain, formerly of Newington, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014, at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. He was the beloved husband of Kazimiera (Deptula) Czerwinski for 60 years. He was born in Zubrzec, Poland, on May 23, 1929, son of the late Wladyslaw and Julia (Monastyrska) Czerwinski. He lived in Newington for 25 years moving to New Britain in 1993. Matthew served with the U.S. Army Polish Forces in Germany in the late ’40s and was a member of the Polish Army Veterans, Post No. 119. He was involved with the PNA for many years, and Mietek was a member of the board of directors for The Polish National Home in Hartford. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, New Britain, and the Holy Name Society of the church as well as S.S. Cyril and Methodius Church, Hartford, and The Men’s Club of the church. He was a talented carpenter who worked on the detailed renovation of the State Capitol and retired from Carpenter Local 43.
