Eleanor Phelon Wilke

Eleanor (Boyko) Phelon Wilke, 91, of West Suffield, passed away on July 9, 2015. Born in New Britain, on May 20, 1924, daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Pisko) Boyko, raised in New Britain and graduated from New Britain High School Class of 1942. Eleanor was employed as a secretary for over 15 years at Hamilton Standard retiring in 1970. She was a member of West Suffield Congregational Church serving as a Diaconate and with the Women’s Fellowship. She served on the Board of Directors at the Suffield Emergency Aid and the Women’s Auxiliary of VFW in Hudson, FL. During her retirement Eleanor and Justin traveled extensively around the world visiting at least 38 countries. In her spare time she loved to knit, crochet and quilt for family and friends, but her special joy was baking brownies for her great-grandchildren. She is survived by her two sons, Edwin Phelon and his wife Diana, and Daniel Phelon and his wife Diane; two grandsons Craig Phelon and his wife Paula, and Todd Phelon; two great-grandchildren Kadin and Carleigh Phelon, two sisters-in-law Marjorie Phelon Hislop and Marjorie Phelon; several nieces and nephews and their families; and her special long-time friend, Gloria Kerr. Eleanor was predeceased by her husbands Edwin C. Phelon in 1967, and Justin E. Wilke, Jr. in 1998; one brother William Boyko; and two sisters Frances Arena, and Betty Giove-Calistro. A special thank you to all the caring staff at Suffield House, Suffield by the River and River’s Watch. The Funeral Services will be on Saturday, July 11 at 10AM at The West Suffield Congregational Church, the burial will follow in West Suffield Cemetery. Please meet directly at Church.
