Mary Marotti

Mary (Pelrin) Marotti, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the home of her daughter Sheila. For 53 years she was the beloved and devoted wife of John Marotti Jr. who passed away in 2003. Mary was born at home on February 29, 1924 on Summit St. in Meriden to the late Edgar and Mary (Balcerowicz) Pelrin. She resided in Meriden all her life and as a young girl lived in the Polish neighborhood near St. Stanislaus Church in a house built by her father and grandfather in 1929. She attended St. Stanislaus School and graduated from Meriden High School in 1942 and Laurel School of Business in 1944. Mary’s early employment included New Departure and Goodman Brothers where she met her husband John. After raising their three children, Mary waitressed at Sun Valley Acres Restaurant. She was later employed by the Meriden Board of Education and worked in the Maloney High School cafeteria until her retirement in 1999. She enjoyed volunteering for the annual Breakfast with Santa Program at Maloney and at the Meriden Soup Kitchen. Mary was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and a member of the Ladies Guild, Sunshine Club and the Meriden Council of Catholic Women. She loved taking day trips throughout New England with John and camping every year at Hammonasset State Park. Mary is survived by her son, Edgar Marotti of Meriden, daughters, Sheila Maietta of Meriden and Annemarie Nitkowski and her husband John of Cheshire; her grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Nitkowski of Colchester, Michael Nitkowski of Wallingford, Abigail Nitkowski of Loveland, CO, David (Nicole) Nitkowski of Prospect, Raquel Nitkowski of Naugatuck, and Jacob, Josiah, Eliana and Mark Nitkowski of Cheshire; her great-grandchildren Hannah, Logan, Morgan, Brantley and another baby boy due in September; a son-in-law, Anthony Maietta; a special niece, Fran Boccuzzio and nephew, Ralph Patz and many other nieces and nephews. ln addition to her husband John, Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Frances Patz and lsabel Pelrin. The family would like to thank Christa Milewski and Jenny Garcia for their compassionate care and help through the years. Also the entire staff of Vitas lnnovative Hospice Care for the support and excellent care they provided. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron St. Meriden, CT 06450. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St. Meriden, CT 06450 on Friday, July 10th from 4 to 7 pm.
