Clara Howard Chappell, 79, departed this life on September 6, 2018. She was born in Prattville, Alabama on February 1, 1939 to the late Mose Anderson Howard and Rosa Coleman. Clara began working at the age of 10 years old as a dishwasher and she also learned to pick cotton at an early age. Before she retired, she worked as a cook in the Hartford Public School System and also for I&J Maintenance as a cleaning person for 27 years. Clara was a founding member of the New England Gospel Association. She loved Dunkin Donuts coffee and enjoyed watching The Wheel of Fortune and QVC. She was also an excellent cook, with collard greens being one of her specialties. Clara loved her family and she especially adored her only granddaughter.
Clara leaves to cherish her memory, son, Kenneth Chappell of Bristol, CT; daughters, Mavis Chappell of Bloomfield, CT and Adria Chappell of East Windsor, CT; granddaughter, McKenzie Chappell of Bloomfield; sisters, Gertrude Franklin, Willie M. Robinson (Robert), Mary Savage, Doris Goodson and Evelyn Coleman; sister-in-law, Daphene Coleman; special cousins Pearl Fellowstone and Janie Bailey; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by three brothers, Willie Savage, Robert Coleman and Earl Coleman; and one sister, Rosie M. Williams.
