Leonard Bradshaw Dakers was born on November 5, 1917 in a little parish called St. Mary to Marie Dakers and Mr. Ruben Bradshaw. He was called away to his eternal rest on Thursday, August 30, 2018, peacefully, with his loving niece Myra by his side.
He was a hard working young man who worked with the railroad company as a supervisor for many years. He was loved and respected by all whom he came in contact with. Mr. Dakers was a man of integrity, compassion, wisdom, and love. He was also full of knowledge and he never forgets anything. He was also very reliable, sincere, and witty.
Uncle Papa, as he was affectionately known, was always imparting wisdom to all who met him. He never allowed you to leave him without him saying something positive and inspiring to you.
He met the love of his life, Zan, in Kingston, Jamaica and they were married for over sixty one years.
A few years after they got married, they migrated to the United States where they resided until his passing. He was employed at the Newington Children’s Hospital until his retirement. Uncle Papa was baptized at the New Covenant Baptist Church in Bloomfield CT and became a member there.
A few years ago he fell and broke his hip but that didn’t stop him from getting back on his feet. His 100th birthday was celebrated with gusto by him and his family and we give thanks to God for His grace and mercy towards him.
Uncle Papa was a man of strong faith and he was always encouraging people to keep on trusting in the Lord. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him in a profound way. We hope that his legacy will continue to live on in his family and in those whom he has impacted in his lifetime.
Uncle Papa and I had a special way of saying goodbye when we talked, “Try your best, do your best and God will do the rest”.
He is survived by his loving wife Zan; sons, Maymut and wife Monica & son Richard (USA); grandchildren, Marlon, Melissa and other grandchildren and several great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Tapper (United Kingdom); cousins, Sammy Dakers, Melorice & Sonia Green, (Jamaica), Millie & Rudolph Lawson (USA); nieces, Myra & Joan (USA); nephew, Patrick and wife Rose (USA); grandnieces & nephews, Marcia, Nova, Benita (USA); friends include, Derma & Sticky Walker and special friend, Alvin Gottshalk.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by the late Ruby Green (Sister/cousin)
